Quando si vuole specificare che un alimento non è dolce ma salato, l'aggettivo più appropriato è “savoury”, non “salted” o “salty”: Adoro i croissants salati, I love savoury croissants; Preferisco il salato al dolce, I prefer savoury food to sweet things. “Savoury” può anche significare “saporito”, “gustoso”: un piatto gustoso, a savoury dish. L'aggettivo “salty” viene usato quando c'è del sale in eccedenza o quando il sale è il sapore principale: Le acciughe di solito sono salate, anchovies are usually salty; mentre “salted” indica un alimento preparato con aggiunta di sale: arachidi salate, salted peanuts.
